Introduction
In 2025, Crosense collaborated with students from The One Academy (TOA) to conduct a User Testing (UT) workshop, aimed at bridging the gap between UI/UX theory and real-world product validation.
Rather than a traditional classroom session, the workshop was designed as a hands-on learning experience where students could step into an industry-aligned UX process and understand how design decisions are tested, validated, and improved in practice.
From Design Creation to Design Validation
The core focus of the workshop was to help students understand that UI/UX design does not end at interface creation—it begins with validation.
Guided by the Crosense team, students were introduced to key UX testing practices, including:
- Designing user testing tasks
- Observing user behaviour during interaction
- Identifying usability issues
- Translating findings into actionable design improvements
Through this process, students experienced how real UX work goes beyond assumptions and moves into evidence-based decision-making.
Learning Through Real Product Scenarios
Unlike conventional assignments, the workshop simulated real product testing environments.
Students were encouraged to observe actual user interactions rather than predict them, allowing them to see how users navigate interfaces, where they hesitate, and what causes confusion or friction.
This hands-on exposure reinforced an essential UX principle:
Design is not based on assumptions—it is validated through user behaviour.
Crosense as Facilitator and Guide
During the workshop, Crosense played the role of facilitator, guiding students through real UX thinking rather than simply delivering theoretical knowledge.
The team provided live demonstrations, case-based explanations, and direct feedback sessions to help students understand:
- Why users struggle at specific steps
- How design choices influence behaviour
- How to interpret user feedback into design improvements
The session became less about instruction and more about shaping how students think as future designers.
Student Insights and Learning Shift
One of the most impactful outcomes was the shift in student perspective. Many students realised the gap between what they expect users to do and what users actually do in real scenarios.
This challenged their assumptions and helped them internalise a key UX mindset:
Good design is not what looks right to the designer—it is what works for the user.
Bridging Education and Industry Practice
The UT Workshop with TOA Students served as more than an educational activity—it became a bridge between academic learning and real industry practice.
It allowed students to experience a simplified yet realistic UX workflow, while also reinforcing Crosense’s broader vision:
UI/UX education should not stop at design output, but extend into real-world validation and user understanding.
Through initiatives like this, Crosense continues to contribute to shaping a more practice-driven, user-centred design mindset among the next generation of designers.
